Google Chrome is one of the most popular web browser developed by Google. It is open source and can be used in Windows, mac and Linux.

There is a good news for Chrome users! The good news is that Google has updated Google Chrome to version 18.0.1025.151  in the stable channel for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Chrome 18.0.1025.151 comes with following fixes or updates:

  • Black screen on Hybrid Graphics system with GPU accelerated compositing enabled

  • CSS not applied to <content> element

  • Regression rendering a div with background gradient and borders

  • Canvas 2D line drawing bug with GPU acceleration

  • Multiple crashes

  • Pop-up dialog is at wrong position

  • HTML Canvas patterns are broken if you change the transformation matrix

  • SSL interstitial error "proceed anyway" / "back to safety" buttons don't work

By referring to the Chromium Blog, the latest Stable channel release of Chrome (Chrome 18.1025.151) brings improvements to both Canvas2D’s speed and WebGL’s reach.

They have enabled GPU-accelerated Canvas2D on capable Windows and Mac computers, which should make web applications like games perform even better than a pure software implementation. GPU-accelerated Canvas2D has previously been enabled in the Beta channel for quite some time, so hopefully developers have had a chance to try it out. They are continuing to make improvements and tweaks to their Canvas2D implementation, so please file a bug in their public issue tracker if you encounter problems.

WebGL enables compelling 3D content on the web, so they want to ensure that as many users as possible have access to this technology. That’s why they have enabled SwiftShader, a software rasterizer licensed from their friends at TransGaming, for users with older configurations. Keep in mind that a software-backed WebGL implementation is never going to perform as well as one running on a real GPU, but now more users will have access to basic 3D content on the web. See their previous blog post for more details on SwiftShader and how to try it out.
